Mask Cleaning 101

When you purchase a new mask there is a layer of silicone which needs to be removed in order to limit the amount of fogging.  There are a number of “over the counter” mask scrubbing products and there is always the option to use either a product like soft scrub or toothpaste.

Whichever you choose make sure to coat the inside of lens and to rub it around for a while…. to make sure you did a good job you can also do a “breath” test.  Exhale thru your mouth into the mask and see if fogging occurs.  Also you will want to apply de fogging solution, but not until you are ready to enter the water and always make sure to follow the manufacturers instructions for best results.
